How to speed up a slow Android phone

Ever wonder why Android smartphones are slow?

Apps don’t appear as quickly as they did in the past. Multitasking takes longer than before. The animation of the screen seems to be taking forever.

Why does your smartphone behave as if it’s not awake? Poor user handling is often the cause.

The symptoms of laziness and sluggishness are similar to the problems that plague desktop and laptop computers. Both are not caused by aging electronics. It is the fault of the user for not following up on proper phone hygiene.

It is not necessary to buy a new cell phone. You don’t have to buy a new phone every two or three years unless you want to. Even a top-of the-line phone will eventually have to do the same tasks as your old one.

It is important to understand what causes digital debris accumulation on an Android phone. Restoring its optimal performance may be easier than you think.

Use these tips to improve the performance of your Android device.

First Steps for Success: Cleaning the Browser on Any Smartphone

The same goes for Android tablets.

Some Android users prefer Google Chrome, while Samsung phone owners may prefer their default Samsung web browsing.

The process to clear the cache on Android devices is the same, regardless of which browser you use.

Step 1 Click the three vertical dots located in the upper right corner of your web browser.

Step 2 Scroll down to the Settings option and click it.

Step 3 Tap Privacy and Security. Then tap Clear browsing data.

Step 4 Touch the down symbol to select the period for which data is stored. Select the boxes next to Cookies and Site Data, Cached Images and Files, and Browsing History.

Step 5 Clear the data by tapping the button located in the lower-right corner of the screen.

Cache Cleanup Round Two — The Apps

Browser cache data can occupy valuable internal space, slowing down your phone. This method can be used to remove the temporary files and redundant cache in Android apps which slow down your phone.

Step 1 Click on the Android Settings menu. Tap Apps Storage.

Step 2 Tap on the app names you have installed. You may see options like Clear cache or Clear storage, depending on what type of app you have installed. To perform a thorough cleaning, tap on either one or both. This will NOT remove the apps but only their digital clutter.

Maintenance Tip Perform regular cache clearing to reduce the accumulation of temporary files. This will prevent performance degradation.

Uninstall or turn off unneeded or unused apps and games

Uninstalling an app will remove it from your phone. When you disable an app, it is removed from the list of active apps and it will no longer run in the background. Disabled applications will not be updated or run in background mode if they are not used, unlike other installed programs.

Step 1 Phone Settings

Step 2 Apps will appear.

Step 3 Tap the application you wish to disable.

Step 4 Tap Disable at the bottom left of the screen.

Bonus Tip Avoid installing Android applications that claim to clean up your RAM or data storage. These apps can often use more resources on your phone than they save.

Disable or change animation settings

You can dramatically improve your Android’s performance by changing a few settings. The battery life can be improved by reducing the use screen effects, such as spinning, zooming and fading.

On slower devices, the default animations can cause a lag. Scales can be adjusted to make slow devices and fast ones feel more responsive.

Step 1 Head to Settings > System and tap Developer options under the System menu. To enable this feature if you don’t see Developer options, move to Step 2. If you don’t see the Developer options, go to Step 2 to enable this feature.

Step 2 Then, select A, B, or C.

Scroll down to About Phone.
B) Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Build number seven.
C) If you are asked, confirm your phone’s lockscreen.
D) Return to Settings > System and tap Developer options under the System menu.

Step 3 The toggle switch should be in the “on” position (right-side of the slot).

Step 4 Click on Drawing in the Developer menu.

Step 5 Find these three options in the list — Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale.

Step 6 Select the desired speed by tapping the scale under each of the three settings.

The options are listed from the top down, starting with off and ending with fastest. Most likely, your phone is set to.5x or off. You can select the scale you want to increase performance.

Step 7 Try different settings to find the best one for you. You will experience different responses to the scale depending on what type of game you are playing or which apps you are using.

Other quick fixes to slow performance

The above steps do all the heavy lifting in order to fix your Android phone’s slowness. Here are some quick and easy tips and tweaks to boost the performance of your Android phone.

Update your Android app regularly. Most of them are updated very often. These older app versions are not only slowing down the Android OS, but also making it easier for hackers and malware to infiltrate.

Restarting your phone is recommended every few days. This practice will free internal storage by removing digital clutter. If your phone isn’t working correctly, this is the best first step to take.

Remove excessive widgets. It’s no secret that widgets can be a great way to quickly launch specialized features within an app without the need to navigate and load an entire application. But adding too many widgets — some of which consume lots of screen real estate — can increase the number of home screens.

Widgets use system resources which reduces the battery life and RAM. Uninstall all Widgets except the ones that are most useful for your essential apps.

You can adjust the refresh rate. The refresh rate controls the speed at which your Android screen updates images. The higher the rate the faster or more fluidly the screen refresh occurs. The higher the refresh rate or hertz (like 120Hz), then the faster and more fluid the screen will respond.

Tap Display in the Settings menu. The majority of Android phones allow you to choose between different refresh options, such as:

  • Auto — which turns on smart optimization up to 120Hz,
  • 60Hz — which provides smooth refresh and lower battery consumption, and
  • 120Hz — for smoother refresh and higher battery consumption.

Restoring Peak Performance

We hope that these steps will rejuvenate your Android device, bringing it back into the responsive and efficient condition reminiscent of when you first used it. You should see a noticeable improvement in the speed and performance of your Android device by following these tips.
