Nintendo Pikmin Short Films Still Blooming Wonderful Nearly Ten Years Later

In 2014, Nintendo found itself in one of its worst financial situations ever due to poor Wii U sales. It might seem like this was not the time to be jovial, but it’s Nintendo and Miyamoto has other ideas.

Pikmin was his favorite child and the legendary game developer announced that he had been working on short films to help promote the third installment of the series. Pikmin 3, released the previous year. The move would not have been on many Nintendo fans’ bingo cards, but it was, simply put, amazing.

The three short movies premiered at the 2014 Tokyo International Film Festival, before becoming available to download on the Wii U and 3DS eShops for $4.99/£4.49/€4.99. Before the service was able to shut down, the three shorts were uploaded onto the official Nintendo of America YouTube channel In 2020, the videos have been free for everyone to view ever since.

‘The Night Juicer’, the shortest and first episode, depicts a group Pikmin being confused over Olimar’s nighttime juicing. Similarly, ‘Treasure in a Bottle’ shows a Pikmin attempting to obtain a shiny, marble while Occupational Hazards is about Olimar’s attempts to clean up a building site. Each scene is slapstick and packed with enough comedy to entertain any audience.

The release of Pikmin 4 Coming up next week, this is the perfect opportunity to review the Pikmin shorts and prepare for the final push. You can find them below.
